I begun my journey from Oulu this saturday, and arrived to Korea 33 hours later. I slept only a couple of hours during the journey, and I am really tired at the moment. A couple more hours and I can go to sleep..
A private room at the dormitory was a nice surprise, since I was expecting a room mate. The room is also well equipped for a dormitory room, I even have a big TV with some cable channels.

YouTube videos
I have created a YouTube channel and uploaded two videos:
GoPro HD camera test with my dog
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IXbVybLq1M
Broken voltage regulator of my Suzuki
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4k3rDQePjI
I also found out, that miniature-video mode of Canon PowerShot SX130 also speeds up the video, which makes the mode kind of useless. I loved the blurred frames of that mode, but I can obviously achieve that with video editing software.

Flights booked
Someone from Kela phoned me early this morning, woke me up actually. I was still partially asleep, and all I understood was that there had been some humane mistake in granting me too little student allowance, and they would fix that. Problem solved, and back to sleep.
I took a little drive today with my motorbike - Suzuki Freewind XF650. Quite slippery I would say. I'd propably need a studded tire, but the point was only to heat the motor. I took the battery off right away, and I'll have to wait until June for the next ride. I had some difficulties to start the bike, because the ignition lock had frozen. Well, that's what the hair dryers are for.
Flights to Korea and back have now been booked. I bought the tickets from Ebookers. At the end of this month I will go to Helsinki by train, and fly to Busan via Münich and Seoul using Lufthansa. Thankfully the prices of flight tickets hadn't got more expensive during last weeks, and it seems the scolarship money is enough for all the expenses of this exchange.
Train from Oulu to Helsinki is going to take about 7 hours, and flights from Helsinki to Busan (Korea) about 14 hours. In addition, I have to wait at airports about 11 hours total, so one way trip will take about 32 hours. Time zone of Korea is UTC+09, which means their clock is 7 hours ahead of ours. I will arrive to Busan at 8.20am local time, so I'll just have to try to stay awake...

Trip preparations
Okay so I've done quite a lot for the trip to Korea today. I got a travel insurance from Pohjola and recieved a decision from Kela concerning my student allowance. It seems Kela is not going to pay me as much as I had hoped, and I tried to call them to ask why. The woman answering the phone couldn't help me and promised someone else with more knowledge would phone me today.
Quite shocking is the fact that if I get shot in Korea, insurance company won't pay me anything, but if I twist my ankle, they'll pay my medical care, and a flight ticket back home. In addition, now I only have insurance for the first 90 days of my exchange. For the last 15 days, the insurance company wants to evaluate my health condition before granting the insurance.
I am also waiting a phone call from bank. I asked them how much would it cost to transfer money to my forthcoming Korean bank account. If bank transfer is too expensive, I'm going to use Western Union.
Last weeks I've been trying to learn English by watching movies without subtitles or with English subtitles, and even thinking from time to time in English. I have to use dictionary quite often, which worries me a bit, but most of the time I use dictionary only to find out I already knew the word. Anyway, it's kinda waste of time, since people don't speak English in Korea...

25th birthday
...and only 10 candles on my cake? Well, I was told it's my mental age, and that's propably not so far from the truth.
I woke up early today (around 9am) just to go to the university too soon. Because I don't have a car anymore, and public transport between Haukipudas and Oulu really sucks, I decided to take a two-hour nap at the university.
Besides visiting university and eating a cake, I also received a VR student card to get cheaper train ticket for my trip to Korea. In addition, I played a couple of rounds of CS Source with Joni. Made me really feel like a geek. Mystery solved. Tä?

Destination Korea
Four weeks from now and I will find myself from the other side of the globe. I will go to South-Korea as an exchange student, and return to Finland in June. At the moment I'm applying for visa, insurance, scolarships, and medicine/vaccination certificates among other things. Flights are yet to be booked. I'll let you now how things work out.
